The Vrazhdebna and Bezmer air bases in Bulgaria are set to become key NATO facilities under a decision adopted by the Bulgarian government, according to segabg.com.
A statement from the Council of Ministers says that a dedicated project is already underway to enhance the operational capabilities of the two military airfields. The government has approved additional requirements for the air bases' Capability Programme Plan, which includes infrastructure projects and facilities to be financed through NATO's Security Investment Programme (NSIP), without requiring additional funding from the Bulgarian state budget.
According to the government, the upgrades will improve the readiness of both air bases to host and support allied forces and military equipment, enhance interoperability with NATO, and strengthen Bulgaria's national security and the Alliance's collective defence capabilities.
