Industrial production index down 4.8% year-on-year in May

The industrial production index decreased by 0.2% in May 2026 compared with the previous month, data from the National Statistical Institute showed. Compared with the same month last year, the index recorded a decline of 4.8%.

In April, the index decreased by 4.6% month-on-month and by 4.1% year-on-year.

The National Statistical Institute also published data on revenue from overnight accommodation, showing that it increased by 20.6% in May compared with the same month last year, reaching EUR 82.7 million. Foreign visitors generated EUR 42.6 million of this amount, while Bulgarian residents accounted for EUR 40.1 million.

The total number of overnight stays reached 1,570,800, an increase of 2.5% year-on-year. Bulgarian citizens accounted for 799,300 overnight stays, while foreign visitors accounted for 771,500.
