Thursday will bring another warm summer day across Bulgaria, with minimum temperatures ranging between 16°C and 20°C, including around 16°C in Sofia.
The morning will be mostly sunny, while cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds will develop around and after midday. Brief showers and thunderstorms are expected in some areas, mainly over northeastern Bulgaria and the mountains. Winds will be light to moderate from the east-northeast. Daytime highs will range between 31°C and 36°C, with temperatures reaching around 32°C in Sofia.
Along the Black Sea
The Bulgarian Black Sea coast will enjoy predominantly sunny weather, with temporary cloud cover increasing during the afternoon. A light to moderate east-southeasterly wind will develop after midday.
Maximum air temperatures will range between 26°C and 29°C, while sea water temperatures will be 22°C to 24°C. The sea will remain calm, with waves of around 1 on the Beaufort scale.
In the mountains
The morning will be mostly sunny, but rain clouds will develop in the afternoon. Many mountain areas can expect brief showers and thunderstorms, with more intense rainfall forecast for the Rila and Rhodope Mountains.
Winds will be light to moderate from the northeast, becoming temporarily strong from the north-northwest over the highest peaks. Maximum temperatures will reach around 24°C at 1,200 metres and 16°C at 2,000 metres above sea level.
Outlook
No significant change is expected on Friday, although isolated afternoon showers are likely in parts of Eastern Bulgaria and the mountain regions.
More developed cloud cover and brief showers accompanied by thunderstorms are forecast for the northwestern and mountainous parts of the Balkans. Elsewhere across the peninsula, the weather will remain mostly sunny, with afternoon cumulus clouds. Expected maximum temperatures on Thursday will reach 34°C in Athens, 32°C in Belgrade, 33°C in Bucharest, and 30°C in Istanbul. Edited by Ivo IvanovAcross the Balkans
