Ninety-seven
servicemen, mainly from the 2nd Tundzha Mechanized Brigade, who will
participate in the forces of the Regional Command West (RC-W), which
is a multinational military regiment of the NATO-led Kosovo Force
(KFOR) mission, were sent with a solemn ceremony in Stara Zagora. The
formation will be deployed at the “Villaggio Italia” base and for
the next six months will perform tasks of patrolling, surveillance
and security support in the area of responsibility.
“The
participation of the contingent of the Bulgarian Armed Forces in the
NATO operation has always given a clear sign that our country
actively contributes to the success of the alliance, the
strengthening of peace and stability in the Western Balkans region,”
said Vladko Vladov, Head of the Political Office of the Minister of Defence, in his welcoming speech. The Commander of the Land Forces,
Major General Deyan Deshkov, pointed out that Bulgarian servicemen have
been participating in the NATO mission in Kosovo for 26 years and
have built an authority with their discipline and professionalism.
