CSKA advances to the second qualifying round of Europa League

CSKA advanced to the second qualifying round of Europa League after a 2-1 away win over Derry City in Northern Ireland. The Bulgarian club advanced with a 5-3 aggregate score and will face Azerbaijan’s Qarabağ in the next round.

The visitors controlled the game during the first half but were unable to score. Two minutes into the second half, Ellis Chapman gave the hosts the lead after a costly mistake by goalkeeper Dimitar Evtimov. Ten minutes later, the match was interrupted due to clashes between supporters in the stands. UEFA sanctions are almost certain to follow.

Three minutes after the match resumed, Ioannis Pittas lobbed goalkeeper Brian Maher to equalize for CSKA. The final score of 2-1 was secured after a shot by Mohamed Brahimi led to an own goal in stoppage time, BTA reported.
