Traffic remained heavy for passenger cars entering Bulgaria from Serbia at the Kalotina border crossing and leaving for Türkiye via Kapitan Andreevo, Bulgaria's Border Police said.

Traffic at Bulgaria's border crossings with Greece, North Macedonia and Romania was reported to be normal.

According to BGNES, motorists entering Bulgaria from Serbia faced waiting times of more than two hours, with all lanes occupied by long queues of vehicles, most bearing German and Benelux registration plates. At Kapitan Andreevo, a queue stretching more than one kilometre formed because of slower processing on the Turkish side, Bulgarian National Radio's Radio Kardzhali reported.

A record 10,120 passenger cars crossed the Bulgarian-Turkish border in both directions on July 20 alone.

Border authorities expect heavy outbound traffic towards Türkiye to continue for another one to two weeks, after which congestion is expected to gradually shift to vehicles entering Bulgaria.
