Households
in Bulgaria are among the least indebted in the European Union. The
amount of debt of Bulgarian households, compared to the national GDP,
amounts to 28%. Only in 7 countries is the ratio lower, with Romania
leading the way with 12.3%. In the period 2017-2025, a 5.4% increase
in the debts of Bulgarian households was reported, BGNES writes.
According
to statistics, the most indebted households in the EU are located in
the rich countries of Northern and Western Europe, and not in the
southern economies, which are traditionally considered more
vulnerable. The Netherlands is in the lead with 93.5%.
The
indicator measures the debts of households – including mortgages,
consumer loans and other forms of credit – as a share of GDP.
