A torrential downpour has turned the streets of Varna into rivers. In just half an hour, more than 30 reports were received of fallen trees and flooded underpasses. The intense rainfall quickly overwhelmed the city's drainage system, Bulgarian National Radio Varna reported.
Traffic came to a standstill at key intersections, while several vehicles became trapped in deep floodwaters.
The storm also caused serious damage to the State Puppet Theatre in Varna. Heavy rain and strong winds brought down the metal structure of the open-air stage, while water flooded storage areas where puppets and stage sets are kept. Despite the damage, the theatre has confirmed that no performances will be cancelled.
Emergency response teams are continuing to clear the affected areas across the city.
