Residents to protest planned U.S. military presence at Bezmer Air Base

More than 500 residents of the village of Bezmer and nearby communities have signed a petition opposing the stationing of U.S. aircraft and military personnel at the Bezmer Air Base, located close to the village. Within less than 24 hours, around half of Bezmer's residents had signed the petition, Mayor Rosen Rusev was quoted as saying by BNR correspondent Daniela Kostova.

The petition, along with similar petitions from the villages of Bolyarsko, Roza and Hadzhi Dimitrovo, will be submitted to Defence Minister Georgi Peev through the regional governor, the mayor said.

A protest outside Bezmer Air Base is being organised on social media for 6 p.m. on Friday.
