Bulgaria's commitment to maintaining stable public finances is
extremely important. This was stated by European Central Bank (ECB)
President Christine Lagarde in response to a question from BTA at a
press conference after the two-day monetary policy meeting in
Frankfurt am Main.
“Bulgaria is
currently experiencing high price level, high inflation and that
might have to do with the fact that some prices that have been kept
on hold for a period of time have found their way into the markets.
It is not totally unusual and we always have divergences between
Member States," Lagarde commented. According to her, it is
important to ensure that inflation returns to more acceptable levels,
especially for the Bulgarian population. We are monitoring the euro
area as a whole, but we are also paying attention to the differences,
and this is definitely one of them at the moment, the ECB head added.
