Snow fell on Mount Musala, Bulgaria's highest peak, on July 24, turning the summit white despite the height of summer, weather website Meteo Balkans reported, publishing a photo by Lyubomir Kovachev.
A sharp drop in temperatures in the higher parts of the Rila Mountains caused rain to turn to snow. The July 24 snowfall is the latest reminder of how quickly weather conditions can change in Bulgaria's mountains. Visitors to the higher parts of the Rila range should be prepared for sudden weather changes, low temperatures, strong winds and poor visibility, Meteo Balkans warned.
