Robert the Robot to visit schools nationwide

Bulgaria's first humanoid robot, Robert, will launch a nationwide Education Ministry campaign that will bring robots developed by Bulgarian engineers into schools across the country.

The initiative aims to introduce more pupils to robotics, artificial intelligence and future technologies, the ministry said after Deputy Education Minister Tanya Pancheva met Metodi Dimitrov, creator of Robert and co-founder of RB Labs.

Powered by artificial intelligence, Robert can hold real-time conversations, answer questions, recognise people and change its digital facial expressions. During the last school year, the robot visited more than 30 schools as part of a pilot programme, attracting strong interest from pupils and teachers.

The Education Ministry also presented Smokey, another robot that will take part in the campaign. During the demonstration, Smokey talked, walked, sat down, stood up and even danced.
