Bulgaria will be represented at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world's largest performing arts festival. The Hand Theatre from Plovdiv will present its production "Shakespeare X 5" at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2026.
"Our participation is recognition of the journey we have made over the years and an opportunity to present contemporary Bulgarian independent theatre to audiences from around the world. From 7 to 30 August, we will perform 24 shows, every day at 11:30 a.m., at Zoo Venues – Playground 1, one of the Fringe's most prestigious and established performance spaces," the company wrote on Facebook.

"Shakespeare X 5" blends theatre, clowning, unexpected twists and abundant imagination. "Rather than retelling Shakespeare's classics, the performance playfully reinterprets them with boldness, freedom and a sense of humour," the troupe says, inviting members of the Bulgarian community in Edinburgh and festival audiences alike to join the experience.
The company's participation is supported by the Municipality of Plovdiv, local businesses, the Consulate of Bulgaria in Edinburgh, and other partner organizations.
