Heatwave continues as storms threaten western and northeastern Bulgaria

Friday will be another hot day, with morning temperatures between 16°C and 22°C, around 20°C in Sofia. The day will be mostly sunny, although clouds will develop over western Bulgaria and the northeast in the afternoon, bringing brief showers and thunderstorms in some areas. Winds will be light to moderate from the north-northeast. Highs will range from 32°C to 37°C, reaching around 32°C in the capital.

An orange warning for dangerous heat has been issued for eight regions, while the rest of the country will be under a yellow warning for high temperatures.

The Black Sea coast will remain sunny, with light to moderate east-northeasterly winds. Maximum temperatures will range from 29°C to 32°C, while sea water temperatures will be 25°C to 26°C. The sea will be slight.

In the mountains, the morning will be sunny before afternoon clouds bring brief showers and thunderstorms to parts of western and central Bulgaria. Temperatures will reach around 26°C at 1,200 metres and 18°C at 2,000 metres.

Saturday will be mostly sunny. Clouds will develop around and after midday, with isolated showers and thunderstorms possible in the western half of the country and the northeast. Winds will remain light from the north-northeast, easing overnight in many areas. Highs will once again range between 32°C and 37°C.
