This year, the lowest level of the Danube River has been reached historically at the shore pumping station that supplies water for cooling the steam generators at the Kozloduy NPP. This was what Prof. Georgi Kaschiev, former chairman of the Board of Directors at the plant, told bTV.

Currently, the water level is 20.62 meters above sea level. There are 10-12 cm left until the first critical level for the pumps is reached. Then power reduction should begin under the program for the safe operation of the nuclear power plant. If the level drops by another 20 cm, then the plant should stop. According to Kaschiev, the forecasts are for a slight decrease in the waters of the Danube and in the next 2 weeks the first critical limit will probably not be reached.
