August 12 total solar eclipse to be visible in Bulgaria as partial eclipse

The most interesting astronomical event of the year—the total solar eclipse on August 12—will also be visible from Bulgaria’s far northwestern regions as a partial solar eclipse with a small phase, Pencho Markishki, a physicist at the Institute of Astronomy and National Astronomical Observatory at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Department of Astronomy at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, said.

In Vidin, the eclipse will begin at 8:27 p.m., when the Sun will be only 1 degree above the western horizon. It will be visible for just a short time, until sunset at 8:37 p.m.
