DB points to radicalization of minors following brutal murder in Plovdiv

Democratic Bulgaria parliamentary group has requested that the Minister of the Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev and the Chairman of the State Agency for National Security Plamen Tonchev be heard in the plenary hall in the first working week of the parliament after the vacation in connection with a brutal crime that has caused violent public outrage across Bulgaria. On August 4, 2026 in the Youth Hill area of ​​Plovdiv, a group of 10 teenagers beat a 37-year-old man to death, filmed the violence on video and took a photo with the victim.

The aim is for MPs to familiarize themselves with the available information on possible processes of radicalization among minors, including through social networks and other online platforms, the spread of extremist and neo-Nazi ideology, symbolism and patterns of behavior, as well as to establish the scale of the activities of groups and networks promoting violence and lynching under the pretext of "hunting for pedophiles" and whether they have connections with foreign far-right and neo-Nazi structures.

The State Security Service also asks what specific actions the Ministry of Interior is taking to identify, prevent and counter the radicalization of minors.
