Bozhidar Saraboyukov won a bronze medal in the men’s long jump at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. He secured Bulgaria’s first medal at a continental outdoor championship in eight years.
The 22-year-old Bulgarian finished third with a jump of 8.26 metres, achieved on his sixth and final attempt, with a headwind of 1.7 metres per second. Saraboyukov also recorded four other jumps beyond the eight-metre mark.
The competition in Birmingham took place in difficult conditions due to the strong headwind, which at times reached around 3 metres per second. Greece’s Miltiadis Tentoglou won his fourth consecutive European title. The silver medal went to Switzerland’s Simon Ehammer, who jumped 8.29 metres.
