The transport ministers of Bulgaria and Turkey, Georgi Peev and Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, agreed at a meeting in Sofia to accelerate work on improving transport connectivity between the two countries.
“Turkey is an important partner for Bulgaria, and it is important for us to develop this relationship,” the Bulgarian minister said. “We have an excellent opportunity to improve connectivity by expanding the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing. At the same time, we are also working on developing a new cross-border connection along the Lesovo-Edirne route. We will do everything possible to secure European funding for these projects,” Peev said.
Road transport was identified as a key element of bilateral transportation and trade. In this regard, the two countries agreed to convene a meeting of the Joint Commission on International Transport, where current issues affecting the road transport sector will be discussed at expert level.
Other priorities include railway connections and the Middle Corridor, a major transport route linking Asia and Europe.
