Plovdiv Jazz Fest, which has already become one of the musical emblems of the city, continues to expand its scope – both in time and genre. The summer continuation of the festival, called Markovo Music Summer, this year for the first time distinguishes the village of Markovo as a separate musical territory for the meeting of different musical genres. Near Plovdiv, in Markovo, we are waiting for two garden and more chamber concerts, as well as the now traditional free concert in the center of the village, in which this year we will hear the undisputed favourites of the audience – Stefan Valdobrev and "The Usual Suspects".

As the title "Jazz and Baroque" suggests, the first concert brings together two seemingly opposite poles, but in this case masterfully brought together in the interpretation of eminent soloists: mezzo-soprano Svetlina Stoyanova (soloist at La Scala in Milan and the Zurich Opera), the Pilekadone Quintet, pianist and composer Konstantin Kostov, drummer and composer Hristo Yotsov and bassist Dimitar Karamfilov.

On August 19, in the garden of the "Panoramna 60" stage in the villa area of the village of Markovo, this one-of-a-kind group will take the audience from the era of the English Baroque (Purcell and Handel) to the aesthetics of jazz today.

Two
days later, on August 21, at the same place and at the same time, the
Miroslava Katsarova Trio will perform. The names of vocalist
Miroslava Katsarova and pianist Miroslav Turiyski are well known for
connoisseurs of meaningful and subtle music derived from jazz, and
for their concert program "The Long Shadows of August" they
will be joined by drummer Nacho Gospodinov.
The
beautiful name of the program has its own background: four years ago,
Mira Katsarova recorded the song "The Long Shadows of August"
with lyrics written especially for her by poet Ina Ivanova. It is
dedicated to the blue-green serenity of summer in the typical poetic
style of the writer and sets the mood of the entire musical program.
