Bulgaria’s ambassador to Ukraine, Zlatin Krastev, presented his credentials to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he announced on his Facebook page. The ceremony took place 20 days after his arrival in Kyiv and, in his words, is evidence of Bulgaria’s important regional role.
“President Zelenskyy emphasized the good relations between Bulgaria and Ukraine and the high level of political dialogue between the two countries, as demonstrated by his frequent working meetings with Prime Minister Rumen Radev. During these meetings, the prime minister has presented concrete proposals for developing economic cooperation, including in the energy sector,” the diplomat wrote.
According to Krastev, Volodymyr Zelenskyy specifically highlighted the proposal to develop the Vertical Gas Corridor, as well as the historically good relations between the two peoples and Bulgaria’s role in Black Sea security.
The ambassador reaffirmed the government’s readiness to work swiftly to develop cooperation in the energy sector. He also said that Bulgaria is ready to hold joint consultations on ways to increase the volume of natural gas transiting through Bulgaria toward Ukraine.
Zlatin Krastev is a former deputy defense minister and a career diplomat with many years of experience at Bulgaria’s permanent delegation to NATO.
