Drones are already monitoring dangerous races and risky driving on the roads in the Varna region. In the last month alone, the police identified seven violations related to unregulated races.

The drones are included in a specialized operation by the "Traffic Police", aimed at combating the dangerous behavior of drivers and motorcyclists. With them, the Traffic Police monitor busy road sections, places with an increased risk of accidents and locations for which there are signals of illegal races.

"Drones allow us to monitor the road situation and timely identify risky behaviour by drivers," Senior Inspector Dimitar Dimitrov from the Traffic Police in Varna told BNR correspondent Daniela Stoynova.

He pointed out that the monitoring is carried out both during the day and at night. If violations are detected, police teams take action under the Road Traffic Act, and if necessary, impose additional administrative measures.

The penalties for participating in unregulated competitions are also serious. The law provides for a fine of 1,500 euro, revocation of the driver's license for one year, and a three-month impoundment of the vehicle when the owner organizes, allows, or provides the vehicle for participation in such an event.

According to Dimitrov, the control over the races is among the main priorities of the Traffic Police during the summer months. In addition to cars, motorcyclists who are known to use certain road sections for racing and dangerous driving, are also under surveillance.

"Control of this type of violation is one of the highlights in the work of the Traffic Police, especially in the summer season. We monitor and control sections for which we have signals or established prerequisites for competitive behavior of motorcyclists. It is particularly important to say that this is not just about sanctions - our goal is to prevent these violations before they lead to a serious traffic accident. In this regard, we also rely on citizens - when they witness a race or other obviously dangerous behaviour on the road, to promptly report it to 112," Inspector Dimitrov says.
