People with disabilities highlight their problems at a march in Sofia

People with disabilities marched through central Sofia under the slogan “Darkness for Indifference! Light for Our Rights!” The demonstration was organized by the Mobility Movement. The protesters set off from the Sofia Municipality building and marched to the National Assembly.

“Our aim is to highlight the problems faced by people with disabilities and make sure we are seen. We want parliament to adopt a new Personal Assistance Act, reform the TELK medical assessment system, and introduce a system for the social inclusion of people with disabilities in public, cultural and economic life”, said Mariana Harizanova, founder of the organization. She also highlighted problems with accessibility, including public and specialized transport and elevators. The movement has staged three protests so far, but its demands have not been heard. ''We brought the torches to the windows of the institutions, and if they still fail to notice us, we will stand beneath them on another day'', Mariana Harizanova said.
