Bulgaria marks 123 years of the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie Uprising

On Petrova Niva in Strandzha, a National Thracian Festival will be held today, August 22, to mark 123 years of the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie Uprising. The uprising is a high point in the struggle for the liberation of Bulgarians from Macedonia and Adrianople Thrace. The event will be attended by the head of state, Iliana Iotova.

At 8:30 p.m., the memorial ceremony will begin in front of the memorial in the historical area. The head of state and supreme commander-in-chief will greet the formation of the representative companies of the National Guard unit and deliver a speech, after which she will pay tribute to those who died in the uprising.
