Heavy traffic at Kapitan Andreevo crossing at Bulgaria-Turkey border

Traffic is heavy at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing on the border with Türkiye, with long queues reported for passenger cars entering Bulgaria, the General Directorate of Border Police said. Traffic at the border crossings with Romania, Greece, Serbia and North Macedonia is normal.

Over the past 24 hours, 28 serious road accidents were registered, leaving 32 people injured, the Interior Ministry reported. In Sofia, five serious and five minor road accidents occurred, with five people injured, one of them in life-threatening condition. The number of people killed in road accidents since the beginning of the year stands at 300, 30 more than during the same period last year.

A total of 126 fires were extinguished over the past 24 hours, with four people injured, the General Directorate for Fire Safety and Civil Protection reported. Firefighters responded to 170 incident calls. Twenty-five fires caused direct material damage, including nine in residential buildings. Emergency crews carried out 29 rescue and assistance operations, three of them following road accidents.
