Partial state of emergency declared in four villages near Haskovo due to fire

A partial state of emergency has been declared for the Haskovo villages of Dinevo, Koren, Krivo Pole and Malevo, in the lands of which a fire has been raging for the third day. Nearly 12 thousand acres have been covered by the element, but there is no danger to the settlements.

“There are affected agricultural areas and mixed forest, as well as dry grasses and bushes. We are yet to specify the size of the forest, part of which has been destroyed, since the fire passed through it,” Senior Commissioner Mitko Chakalov, Director of the Regional Directorate for Fire Safety and Population Protection in Haskovo, told BNT.

Deputy Mayor of Haskovo Municipality Dinko Tenev announced that agricultural fields have been affected and if a state of emergency is not declared, the farmers will face large fines from the state fund “Agriculture”.

The fire broke out on Sunday afternoon near Dinevo, and a partial state of emergency was declared on Monday. During the inspection, the investigating police received information from local residents who saw two children near the village smoking cigarettes. Subsequently, one of the boys set fire to dry vegetation to clean the place. The two boys were identified and interviewed by the police in the presence of their parents. The materials on the case are to be reported to the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo.
