After Burgas was selected by Bulgarian National Television and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to host the 71st Eurovision Song Contest in May 2027, preparations are now in full swing.
One of the main goals is to complete preparations at the city’s venue, Arena Burgas, by the end of the year so that a test concert can be held to assess internal logistics, acoustics, and other technical parameters in the presence of EBU experts. Organizers are concerned about possible delays in the delivery of the necessary equipment, as most of the facilities, technology, and equipment will be supplied from China.

Hosting the contest will require coordination among at least five ministries, as Eurovision is not only an event for Burgas and Bulgaria’s southern Black Sea coast, but an opportunity to showcase the entire country to an international audience.

Meanwhile, it has become clear that the number of passenger flights to Burgas will increase during the contest. Between May 2 and 19, 2027, up to two flights a day will operate on the Sofia–Burgas–Sofia route, the national flag carrier announced. Afternoon services will be added to the regular evening flights between the two cities on the days leading up to the contest. They will provide convenient connections for passengers arriving on international flights at Sofia’s Vasil Levski Airport. In the days following the final, the schedule will also include morning flights from Burgas to Sofia, timed to accommodate the expected return flow and onward connections from the capital city. Via Sofia, passengers will also have access to Bulgaria Air’s international network of more than 20 destinations.
