Drigor Dimitrov has secured his place in the US Open main draw in New York without having to play his final qualifying match.
The Bulgarian was due to face Finland’s Otto Virtanen in the third and final round of qualifying, but Virtanen withdrew with a back injury, handing Dimitrov a place in the main draw.
The 35-year-old, currently ranked No. 137 in the world, had already picked up two wins in qualifying, defeating Italy’s Lorenzo Giustino and Kazakhstan’s Timofey Skatov.
Dimitrov reached the US Open semifinals in 2019 and advanced to the quarterfinals two years ago. He missed last year’s tournament due to a pectoral muscle injury.
