The 14th edition of the Budin Medieval Festival will take place on August 29 and 30 at Baba Vida Fortress in Vidin, with events beginning at 7 pm, BTA reported, citing Tsetska Tsokova, chief expert for tourism information and promotion at Vidin Municipality.
The festival takes its name from medieval Vidin, known as Budin. This year’s edition is themed around the “Bulgarian spirit”, which has endured through the centuries, with the programme focusing on the little-known ruler of Budin, Ohtum.
On the first evening, visitors will see historical re-enactments and demonstrations, including the military strategy used to defend the fortress. The programme also features demonstration battles between victors and defeated fighters, as well as the evening performances Spirit of the Bulgarians and Fire Magic. The night will end with a torchlight procession for participants and visitors.
The second day will feature demonstration battles by the fortress defenders and medieval activities for children, with younger visitors invited to take part in a range of entertaining and educational games.
Admission is free.
