Bulgaria’s Energy and Water Regulatory Commission has approved a natural gas price of €41.60 per megawatt-hour for September, excluding access and transmission charges, excise duty and VAT. In August, state-owned gas supplier Bulgargaz sold natural gas at €39.43/MWh.
Despite the 5.5% monthly increase, Bulgarian consumers will pay nearly €25/MWh less than international market prices, largely due to the competitive price of gas supplied from Azerbaijan.
The September supply mix includes natural gas under Bulgaria’s long-term contract with Azerbaijan, as well as liquefied natural gas purchased from traders through a tender procedure.
The approved price also includes a component covering Bulgargaz’s costs for storing gas at the Chiren underground storage facility, in line with obligations under the Emergency Action Plan.
