The funds secured under the fourth and fifth payments from the Recovery and Resilience Plan are extremely important given the depleted state coffers and the advance spending of revenues for 2026, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said at the beginning of a government meeting.

According to Radev, in three and a half months, the government had to make up for years of neglect and a lack of courage to implement reforms in order to prevent the loss of enormous funds. “The European Commission released these funds in recognition of the government’s strong political will and concrete actions to uphold the rule of law and combat corruption”, Premier Radev stressed.

Thanks to the funds received, product fees for electrical and electronic equipment will be reduced by an average of four times, while the trend of addressing waste-management problems by placing a greater burden on businesses and citizens will come to an end. Improving transport connectivity remains a priority, with a focus on the Hemus and Ruse–Veliko Tarnovo motorways and the Vidin–Montana expressway.
