Energy Minister Iva Petrova said she expects the crisis over critically low Danube levels to have passed. The low water levels had forced the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant to reduce output. Petrova said the Danube had returned to a level at which the plant was operating without difficulty about a month ago, although it remains critically low.
“We are already familiar with this level. We believe the situation will stabilise from here and that there will be no further critical situations,” she said.
Petrova stressed the need for countries in the region to coordinate their response to low Danube levels rather than each seeking solutions on its own.
“Forecasts suggest that we will be facing such critical situations increasingly often,” the minister said.
