President Iotova and senior NATO official discuss security challenges

The challenges facing NATO’s collective security amid the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East were the focus of a meeting between President Iliana Iotova and NATO Assistant Secretary General for Intelligence and Security Scott Bray, held at the Presidency on Dondukov 2 Boulevard. Bulgaria’s head of state emphasized the need for security guarantees for the Black Sea region, which is of major economic importance to Bulgaria.

Scott Bray’s visit to Bulgaria is primarily focused on the country’s upcoming chairmanship of the NATO Civilian Intelligence Committee in 2027. The meeting was also attended by Plamen Tonchev, Chairman of the State Agency for National Security (DANS), and Antoan Gechev, Chairman of the State Intelligence Agency, the President’s Press Secretariat said.

Prime Minister Rumen Radev also met with NATO Assistant Secretary General for Intelligence and Security Scott Bray. The two discussed the security environment in the region and current issues on the Alliance’s agenda.
