Affordable energy is essential for Europe's resilience, competitiveness and security, European Council President António Costa said in Sofia at a joint briefing with Prime Minister Rumen Radev. He added that the EU must accelerate market integration and improve energy connectivity between member states to reduce prices. “This will help strengthen our energy security, and Bulgaria can play a decisive and strategic role in this regard”, António Costa stressed.
According to António Costa, Europe’s security is also linked to its enlargement. “Ukraine, Moldova and the Western Balkans belong in our Union, and each must move forward on the basis of its own merits and with the principle of equal treatment applying to all”, he said. António Costa added that this is the most important geopolitical investment the European Union can and must make.
