Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev and his Slovak counterpart Robert Fico issued a joint call in Sofia for a diplomatic solution to Russia’s war against Ukraine, Radio Bulgaria’s Marta Mladenova reported.

“The war in Ukraine has no military solution. I always speak independently on behalf of the government when I say that the war in Ukraine is a violation of international law by the Russian Federation, but we do not see the world in black and white. In 2014, we saw the causes of this war, and I am not happy with the way the EU is supporting the war,” Fico said.

Prime Minister Radev, for his part, said: “We once again share our common view that attempts to find a military solution increase the risks and lead to dangerous escalation. That is why we once again call for reason. We call for dialogue. We call for a ceasefire and for the sides to sit down at the negotiating table, because diplomacy is the only sustainable and reliable solution to this conflict.”

During their meeting, the two prime ministers also discussed closer cooperation in nuclear energy and industry, particularly in the automotive and defence sectors.

Robert Fico is in Sofia on an official visit at Prime Minister Rumen Radev's invitation to discuss bilateral cooperation and current European and international issues.
