Bulgaria’s GDP grows 2.8% year on year in second quarter

Bulgaria’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 2.8% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the same period last year and by 0.7% compared with the previous quarter, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) reported.

Final consumption accounted for 79% of GDP in the second quarter, while imports of goods and services exceeded exports.

GDP per person employed rose by 3.1% in real terms compared with the second quarter of 2025, according to preliminary NSI data. The number of people employed in the economy stood at 3.662 million, with a total of 1.428 billion hours worked.

In the second quarter, GDP amounted to an average of €8,272.60 per person employed and €21.20 per hour worked.
