Ostava with new single “Bullets” and two major concerts

The music of the Bulgarian band Ostava has always managed to capture the pulse of society, addressing pressing issues in a poetic way. We hear this once again in their latest single, “Kurshumi” (Bullets) from the album “Sartse/Vina” — a story about disappointment, time and the journey back to each other. The music and lyrics were written by Georgi Georgiev, the band’s guitarist and vocalist, who, together with Svilen Noev, is one of Ostava’s songwriters. His original idea was for the song to be slower, which is why its tempo gradually builds throughout. During rehearsals, however, Ostava’s drummer Dani suggested a beat that was twice as fast. This helped shape the song’s final indie-alternative sound.

The message was inspired by the major social protests that took place recently and by the disappointment caused by empty political promises. But, as Zhoro explains, there is more to it:

“The lyrics also have a very personal dimension. They talk about these disappointments, but also about how we emerge stronger from them because we don’t allow the empty words that are aggressively thrown at us every day to hit us. Sometimes we try to move forward, and all of this just passes us by. Basically, salvation lies in love, as the song says.”

The premiere of the video for “Bullets” comes just days before Ostava’s traditional autumn concert, with which the band celebrates its birthday. This year, the concert will take place on September 9 at Maimunarnika in Borisova Garden in Sofia, with the young band Scarlet taking the stage before them. Three days later, on September 12, Ostava will give another concert, this time at Orpheus Open Air Cinema in Plovdiv. With these two major open-air concerts, the band will bid farewell to the summer.
