Iotova: We will not allow Bulgaria to be drawn into the Ukraine conflict

Speaking at the establishment of the initiative committee nominating head of state Iliana Iotova and BTA Director General Kiril Valchev as candidates for president and vice president in the upcoming elections on October 25, Iotova said that there is no military solution to the war in Ukraine and that Bulgaria should take the initiative in forming a coalition for peace.

“The conflict directly affects us — drones, enormous economic and social problems. The war has reached the Black Sea. The problem in the Black Sea has evolved from a regional issue into a global one. This requires urgent initiatives, and here we need a unified Bulgarian position. Bulgaria cannot participate in a ‘coalition of the willing’ that is preparing for a military presence in Ukraine. We will not allow the country to be drawn into this conflict”, BTA quoted her as saying.

She also stated that she would not compromise on the rights of Bulgarians in North Macedonia.
