A paraglider taking part in the Paragliding World Cup in Bulgaria has died in an accident in the Balkan Mountains, BGNES reported. The athlete fell in the area of Mount Golyam Kademliya, the Mountain Rescue Service said.
An attempt will be made on September 9 to recover the body from the mountain. On September 8, other paragliders noticed that the competitor’s reserve parachute had been deployed and alerted the emergency number 112. A military Bell 206 helicopter was deployed as part of the search operation. An air ambulance transported rescuers and doctors to the area of Mount Golyam Kademliya in the Triglav massif, Nova TV reported. A mountain rescuer reached the site at around 3:12 p.m.
