Bulgaria will continue to support Moldova on its path to the EU, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova at a briefing following a meeting with Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi, who is on an official visit to Sofia. According to Velislava Petrova, Moldova has proved that when there is political will and readiness for reforms, the path to EU accession is possible, even in a deteriorating security environment and with military hostilities taking place in the immediate vicinity, BTA reported.
Regarding the Bulgarian community in the Taraclia district, which numbers around 50,000 people, Minister Petrova said that Moldova has ensured that the administrative reform in the country will not have a negative impact on the Bulgarian minority.
Velislava Petrova also said that energy security was the focus of the talks. She noted that Bulgaria is helping to strengthen Moldova’s energy security through the Vertical Gas Corridor.
