The 19th session of the Bulgaria-China Intergovernmental Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation was held in Beijing. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Investments and Industry Alexander Poulev identified attracting Chinese investment to Bulgaria and expanding bilateral trade relations as key priorities.
The positive trade in bilateral trade was also highlighted, with total trade exceeding USD 2.5 billion in the first four months of 2026, an increase of 88.5% compared with the same period in 2025, BTA reports.
Alexander Poulev stressed that Bulgaria is ready to pursue meaningful economic transformation that delivers tangible results for Bulgarian citizens and consumers, while continuing to develop its relations with its strategic partners. Pulev said that, amid the changing global economic and geopolitical landscape, Bulgaria’s strategic position in the Black Sea region, its port infrastructure and transport links are becoming increasingly important, while the country will play an ever more significant economic role in the region.
