The Ministry of Defence is closely monitoring all opportunities to develop defence capabilities through multinational NATO and EU projects. Their number is steadily increasing, and decisions on participation are based on a balanced approach aimed at avoiding duplication among projects of a similar nature, Minister of Defence Dimitar Stoyanov said during a parliamentary Q&A session.

Earlier, Democratic Bulgaria MP Atanas Slavov asked whether Sofia would join a USD 40 billion anti-drone initiative announced during the NATO summit in Ankara.

“Given the available financial resources, we cannot afford to participate in two initiatives of a similar nature”, Minister Stoyanov replied, stressing that Bulgaria has already declared its participation at an EU counter-drone project.
