Bulgaria to back Italy’s European hybrid-threat centre proposal

Bulgaria will support Italy’s proposal to establish a European centre to counter hybrid attacks, Defence Minister Dimitar Stoyanov said at Bezmer Air Base, where he welcomed his Italian counterpart Guido Crosetto, BTA reported. The proposal is due to be put forward at a meeting of defence ministers in Brussels on September 28.

“Bulgaria will definitely take part in this centre. Threats in cyberspace, drone attacks, what we are seeing in Western Europe and in Bulgaria, and possible terrorist attacks – these are all part of modern warfare,” Stoyanov said.

“Hybrid warfare is not something you can see, like bombs, but it is just as dangerous. We need to have a common discussion with Europe to understand how to respond to these attacks,” Crosetto said.

The two ministers also discussed the joint development and use of military facilities at the Kabile military area near Yambol.
