According to preliminary voter lists, 6,645,746 voters are eligible to cast ballots in the upcoming presidential election in Bulgaria on October 25. More than 6,700 applications to vote abroad have been submitted so far. Traditionally, the highest number of applications come from the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany and Türkiye. This was announced by Central Election Commission spokesperson Stoyanka Balova-Tsvetkova at a commission briefing.
Electronic applications to vote abroad can be submitted until midnight on September 29, while voters have until October 10 to request to be added to the electoral roll at their current address.
Based on the applications submitted from abroad, polling stations will be established in other countries. At least 40 applications are required for a polling station to be opened at a particular location. Where there are 300 voters, voting machines will also be provided. The Central Election Commission will analyse the data to determine whether some polling stations abroad need to be supplied with two voting machines to avoid voter congestion.
Eight political parties and 24 initiative committees have been registered to take part in the presidential and vice-presidential election. Registration was denied to two parties and three initiative committees because of deficiencies and discrepancies that were not rectified within the statutory deadline.
The ballot numbers will be drawn by the Central Election Commission on September 23.
