Bulgaria will bring together major transport investments in a single national portfolio, ranked according to strategic importance and readiness for implementation, Transport Minister Georgi Peev said, as quoted by BGNES. The aim is to direct limited budget resources towards priority projects, while part of the funding will come from public-private partnerships, concessions, EU funding and financial institutions.
The plan covers 5,875 kilometres of road infrastructure and more than 2,056 kilometres of railway infrastructure along trans-European transport corridors, as well as nine port, airport and intermodal projects. The government has set a five- to ten-year timeframe for the implementation of the key projects. Some of the infrastructure will have dual civilian and military use.
