Troyan and Oreshak invite visitors to the traditional Bulgarian Plum Festival

The town of Troyan and the nearby village of Oreshak are hosting the 33rd edition of the Bulgarian Plum Festival, which runs through September 22, BTA reports. The program features culinary demonstrations, competitions, contests, concerts, exhibitions and traditional crafts. The events in Troyan will kick off on September 19 with a festive procession. The program features performances by folk ensembles and a culinary show.

On September 20, a competition for the best homemade plum brandy (rakia) will take place. The program will also include a parade of traditional ceramic brandy vessels from the Museum of Traditional Crafts and Applied Arts in Troyan, performances by amateur groups, and a concert by Papi Hans. On September 21, visitors will be able to sample traditional foods from the villages around Troyan and take part in a cocktail-making masterclass.

The festival will culminate on September 22, Bulgaria’s Independence Day. Following the traditional laying of wreaths at the “Vila Vanna” memorial complex, the celebrations will continue with a performance by students from the National School of Folk Arts Philip Kutev in Kotel.

During the festival, “Crafts Street” will be set up in central Troyan. Artisans from across the country will take part, showcasing traditional Bulgarian crafts.
