Traffic is normal at all border checkpoints and border crossings in the country, the Border Police reported.

The European network of traffic police services ROADPOL has designated September 17 as a Day Without Road Deaths, Bulgaria’s Ministry of the Interior said. The initiative is part of the annual ROADPOL Safety Days (RSD) campaign, which this year runs from September 16 to 22.

In 2026, the campaign focuses on pedestrian safety, with pedestrians being among the most vulnerable road users. Police urges drivers to exercise increased caution in built-up areas, in places with heavy pedestrian traffic and when approaching pedestrian crossings. Observing speed limits is crucial, as speed is one of the key factors determining the severity of the consequences in a collision with a pedestrian.

Unfortunately, two people were killed and 30 injured in 24 serious road accidents across the country over the past 24 hours, Traffic Police reported. Since the beginning of September, 362 serious road accidents have occurred in Bulgaria, claiming 17 lives and leaving 447 people injured. Since the beginning of the year, 330 people have lost their lives on the country’s roads, while 6,024 have been injured.
