Hello and welcome to this special festive edition of Bulgaria Today, the English-language podcast of Radio Bulgaria, on September 22, Bulgaria’s Independence Day.
Your hosts today are Rositsa Petkova and Kostadin Atanasov.
Today, Bulgaria celebrates the anniversary of one of the defining moments in its modern history. On September 22, 1908, in the historic town of Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria proclaimed its Independence, marking a new chapter in the country’s journey as a sovereign European state. In this special edition, we will take a closer look at the story and significance of Bulgaria's Independence Day.
Later in our Culture segment, we remember the remarkable Bulgarian artist Ivan Tabakov, marking 125 years since his birth and exploring the legacy of a painter whose mastery of light and colour deserves renewed attention.
And, of course, we will celebrate the occasion with Bulgarian music.
Stay with us for this special edition of Bulgaria Today, as we mark Bulgaria’s Independence Day together!
