Bulgaria recorded the EU’s sharpest annual increase in prices for fuels and lubricants for personal vehicles in August, according to Eurostat data. Prices rose 34.5% year on year, compared with an average increase of 23.8% across the other EU countries. The rise in August was the highest since the conflict between the United States and Iran began. The previous high was 33.9% in May.
Bulgaria also posted the second-largest monthly rise in diesel prices. Diesel was 13.5% more expensive in August than in July, compared with an average increase of 8.3% in the other EU countries. Only Czechia recorded a steeper rise, at 14.3%.
