“#BeActive, improve your skills, gain more” is the motto of the 2026 European Week of Sport, which opens today outside the Ivan Vazov National Theatre in Sofia. Events in the capital and across the country will encourage sport, physical activity and healthy living.
The initiative will be launched by Minister of Youth and Sport Encho Keryazov, Olympic champions Stoyka Krasteva and Ivet Goranova, Bulgaria’s rhythmic gymnastics group, volleyball player Teodor Salparov and swimmer Tsanko Tsankov. A #BeActive healthy lifestyle expo will also take place today, with sports demonstrations, training sessions, challenges and health-related activities open to visitors. The week culminates on September 26 outside Sofia’s National Palace of Culture with sports demonstrations, dance and gymnastics performances, martial arts and a roller show. I.N.I and FYRE will perform, followed by a light show in the evening.
#BeActive is a European Commission initiative promoting sport and physical activity across the EU. Bulgaria’s national coordinator is the Ministry of Youth and Sport.
